This document presents selected international labor force statistics for 10 countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and 6 European countries. The data are adjusted to approximate U.S. concepts except for the data in table 3, which are published by the originating country. The foreign country data adjusted to U.S. concepts are referred to as ‘adjusted’ in the text and as ‘approximating U.S. concepts’ in the tables. Likewise, the data published by national statistical agencies are referred to as ‘published’ in the text and as ‘published by originating country’ in the tables. Published data may be from administrative records and establishment surveys; adjusted data are usually based on labor force surveys, many of which have become continuous (i.e. covering all weeks of the reference period).
