International technology talent crisis beginning
Source: Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu
The 2007 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 CEO survey recently revealed the beginning of a talent crisis within the technology industry.
With the baby boomer generation reaching retiring age, international CEOs cite chronic shortages of talent as one of their greatest concerns. More than half of the companies surveyed said they plan to expand their workforce by more than 25 percent, with the vast majority wanting to grow organically, but the biggest challenge to companies is “finding, hiring and retaining qualified employees.”
Many CEOs have made it their top personal challenge to develop the next generation of leaders, yet a large number express concern with national education systems. Views on off-shoring have also changed, being seen not just as a way to capitalize on cut-rate labor, but as a valuable source of talent that is not available at home.
